I am the Founder and Board President of The Zadie Project. We had a board meeting last weekend and I am very excited about our plans for the next year!
What is The Zadie Project?
As part of our efforts to become an even more conscious company, along with my team, I brainstormed ways we could give back. Why not expand what we already did well - make soup - and get it to children, families and seniors who struggled to find healthy food options. So, in December 2016, Souper Jenny became the founding sponsor of The Zadie Project, a 501(c)3 created to feed hungry children, families and seniors in our own community.
Our mission is two fold;
1. Making healthy soup and working with local organizations to distribute the quarts to individuals & families in need in the Atlanta area and,
2. Educating the community on the importance of making better food choices.
How do we do this?
When a customer buys a bowl of My Dad’s Turkey Chili, we donate the cost of that chili back to The Zadie Project. We use those funds to help make and package seasonal soups. We then work with local organizations to get quarts of soup to those families that need it most.
As of this post, we have donated over 20,000 quarts of soup and have taught twelve classes through after-school programs in Title 1 schools, at community centers, and at The Souper Farm at Souper Jenny Westside.
SO, HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Throughout the month of SEPTEMBER we're launching a Round Up campaign at all 4 of our Souper Jenny locations. At the register, you will be asked if you’d like to "round up" your change or add a quarter to your credit card payment to support our efforts. We're hoping to raise $2,500 which will allow us to make more soup and feed more hungry families.
As a non-profit, we do accept donations. So, you can always make a tax-deductible contribution here.
Please check out our brand new website where you can find more information about The Zadie Project and other ways to get involved and volunteer. I hope you will join us in our fight against hunger in our own backyard.
As always, feel free to reach out with any thoughts, questions or ideas!
