Performer Spotlight: MEG GILLENTINE
Meg is a creative powerhouse! She has an amazing artistic eye, makes beautiful woodwork AND I have seen her do stunning balletic leaps on the Brooklyn Bridge! Her designs can be seen in Souper Jenny Roswell and she built the gorgeous table where I host family dinners in front of my home. She joined the board for The Zadie Project last year, I am beyond excited to have her join me on stage for All’s Fair in Love and Soup! Shining a light on MEG GILLENTINE!
Why did you agree to perform?
I agreed to perform for a couple of reasons. First, I just don’t say no to Jenny. Any opportunity that I get to spend with her brings my soul so much Joy. Let’s face it, SHE IS MAGIC. Secondly, I love to be with theatre folk, especially Atlanta theatre folk. I love sharing the stage with them, and when you get an opportunity to do your "first love" you say yes!
What are you most looking forward to?
I serve on the board of directors of The Zadie Project, and I love the mission. I’m looking forward to the people that we don’t even know yet, that are looking for ways to give back in 2020. People that will be moved by what The Zadie Project is doing for our community and will want to step up and make it one of their personal passion projects.
Do you know what you are singing? And if so, why did you choose this song?
Ha! Great question!!! I bet Bill, our wonderful musical director would like to know the answer to this question, as well. I’ve gone back and forth between a couple of songs, and I just can’t decide…but soon, very soon.
Funds raised from the cabaret will go and support The Zadie Project. What about its mission resonates with you?
It all resonates with me. I have a 10 year old son, so knowing that there are children his age right in our backyard that go to school hungry, or don’t know if they will have dinner, or a roof over their head or even a blanket, just breaks my heart. But more importantly, I want him to know and be aware of this, as well. It’s important to me that he finds and develops a passion for service, to want to make a difference, to be present and aware. I can only lead by example, and to me The Zadie Project is one of the very best examples.
Anything that you want to promote? Any artistic endeavors?
Yes!!! The Silent Auction, people!! During intermission of the cabaret, we’re doing a silent auction, and it’s going to be fantastic! A beach house, Jenny cooking for all your friends, say what?
Oh, and if you want a custom table, or want a bedroom redone, or a closet organized, or an accent wall, and you’re on a small budget or a big budget, I’m your girl. Website coming soon, but you can email me. If you need a reference, just ask Jenny, she’s my best client. And one more thing, if you want to do a production of the musical, Sweet Charity, call me!
