The Tale Of The Holiday Party And The Tollhouse Pie

posted Tuesday, December 18th at 8:11 a.m.

Last night I held my annual Holiday Pajama Party for my staff at my house. Basically, it's a drinking and eating festival and then a mad flurry of gift opening. We are closed today because the staff (myself included) went through a case of wine, several bottles of Champagne and assorted other alcoholic beverages and I just didn't have the heart to make them stand up for eight hours. (Did I mention there are only 14 of us?)

We in the Souper Jenny world know how to have fun. I cooked for everyone, making sure that no soup was on my menu so that my restaurant family would know that I could make something besides Turkey Chili and other brothy items. We ate like it was our last meal, counting no calories or Weight Watchers points.

After everone opened their gifts, it was time for dessert and that is when the party took a turn.
I knew from the start, I had to get my favorite dessert for this feast which is the Tollhouse Pie from Murphy's restaurant in Virginia Highlands. Murphy's is one of my all time favorite restaurants, an Atlanta institution. The food is delicious comfort food with a classy neighborhhod atmosphere and I am always up for a visit there. Murphy's also happens to be the home of some of the best desserts around and the Tollhouse Pie served warm with a little Hagen Daz Vanilla will impress anyone. (Anyone can have one of these by the way! Visit www.Murphysvh.com)

Am I talking too much about pie? That dessert came out of the oven and all 14 of us were in the kitchen, fork in hand, waiting for the first piece. The sugar high came next and everyone seemed to be talking at once, taking pictures and playing with my 4 year old's toys. Jonah was in heaven. All these adults acting like children? Can it get any better than this?

We went on like this until 11:30 when there was no more pie and we were full and sleepy. My guests left, Jonah, still wide awake, recited everyone's name and what they had given him (he made out like a bandit!), rolled over and was asleep before I even said goodnight.

Until next year's Tollhouse Pie!
Merry Christmas!
Jenny
