A DAY IN THE LIFE...
posted Wednesday, November 14th at 9:14 a.m.
6:00 Jonah wakes me up with his Breakfast order and then allows me to shower.
8:00 I drop off my son at school and proceed to Starbucks where I pick up the kitchen staff's morning coffee. They are very particular, only Starbucks or they get cranky
8:30 The days that I'm not cooking I arrive by 8:30 to manage the mornings problems...The produce order was late, the bathroom toilet is leaking, the walk in door won't close, the bread looks a little burnt, George, the homeless guy wants to talk to me about how I over seasoned his free Turkey Chili yesterday, the recycling people have not showed up so our attempt to save the planet is starting to smell, I forgot to order something we need and have to run to the grocery store.
9:00 I stop whatever I'm doing to set up the dining room, make the menu boards, do the voice mail and generally do a once over of the restaurant.
9:30 I test all the food and prep for the staff to arrive at 10:00
10:30 We have a menu meeting and go over our goals for the day then sit down to a staff meal and daily meditation. Some days we need this more than others!
11:00 -2:00 Souper Jenny is Buzzing. Between mini problems like the toilet over flowing and the lights suddenly flickering, Marcie, the general manager and I keep up with the next days ordering, float the dining room and make sure all is running smoothly.
2:00-4:00 Once the dining room has calmed down, I address any problems the staff may have had, make sure all my orders are in and start working on the next day's menu as well as the evening prep list for Julio. My kitchen staff has literally changed my life. It wasn't so long ago that I was chopping and dicing all day and all night!
4:00 One of My favorite things to do is pick up Jonah after school and head to Whole Foods. We look at all the bizarre fruits and vegetables and talk about how we can cook them. Jonah picks salmon for dinner AND broccoli! That's sort of shocking. We head home for a super hero play session
6:00 Jonah and I have eaten and the daily bath conversation starts. "Do I have to wash my hair". "Do I have to wear pajamas? I like being naked"!
8:00 How many times can a kid read CandyLand? Jonah is 4 and I still have to lie down with him until he is completely asleep! Sometimes this takes hours.
10:00 You think there is a 10:00?
